Pakistani airspace to remain closed till Friday noon

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – In view of the prevailing tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistani airspace will remain closed till Friday noon.

According to the reports, Pakistan’s airspace will remain closed until 1:00 pm today. The CAA is likely to restore Pakistani airspace for commercial operations.

All the domestic and international travelers have been notified requesting anonymity. The Civil Aviation Authority has also informed the International Air Transport Association (IATA) headquarters about it.

The CAA tweeted, “Due to current situation in the country, all flights of #SereneAir dated 1st March 2019 are being further delayed by 0300 hours. The final timings of flights would be intimated later. We apologize for the inconvenience. For further assistance, kindly call on our UAN 111-737-363.

Earlier today, In another tweet, the CAA also said, “Decision on restoring #Pakistan airspace will be made shortly upon the expiry of existing NOTAM. Regret the inconvenience, we will be updating shortly. Paindabad!”

On Wednesday, Pakistani airspace was shut after the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), acknowledged the closure of Pakistan’s airspace due to the prevailing security situation.

However, later in the day, the CAA ─ in a tweet which has since been deleted ─ had stated that commercial aviation had been partially restored.

But in another tweet in the early hours of Thursday morning, it retracted the partial resumption statement and said that the closure was in fact still intact, adding that it would reopen around midnight on Thursday.

Earlier, two aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) were downed by Pakistan Air Force after their intrusion in the country’s airspace, officials said. All domestic and international flights were suspended at the airports of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan.

Indian media had also reported suspension of flights in Occupied Kashmir and India’s Punjab having border with Pakistan. The civilian air traffic said to be suspended at Srinagar airport.

Tensions escalated after Indian government officials’ war mongering statements meant to create an anti-Pakistan hysteria in country to achieve political gains against the opponents in the upcoming general election.

According to the DG ISPR, Indian fighter jets violated Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday and the PAF destroyed two aircraft of the IAF inside Pakistani airspace.

One IAF jet crashed inside Azad and Jammu Kashmir region while other in Indian occupied Kashmir, a military statement said.
