Australia Covid live update: two further Covid cases reported at Sydney aged care home

At least 140 of 200 staff at a SummitCare home are now in 14 days of self-isolation as NSW starts to see an overall downward trend in new cases. Follow latest updates

The top US diplomat in Australia has declared both countries need to set “more ambitious climate goals” and tackle the climate crisis “head on”, as international pressure mounts on the Morrison government to act.

Mike Goldman, who is chargé d’affaires at the United States embassy in Canberra, emphasised that the US and Australia had a shared obligation to protect the planet.

Meanwhile, in NSW, health and education officials are reported finalising return to school plans to ensure all primary and secondary school students are back in the classroom when school holidays end.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting there will be strict pickup and drop off procedures and school events and sports will be paused. They also suggested that the government will consider tailoring restrictions in schools dependent on case numbers in particular areas.
