Karachi was hit by a wave of unannounced loadshedding Wednesday night and many areas spent the night without power.
The loadshedding came mere hours after protests against K-Electric. People say this unannounced loadshedding continues all day and night, leaving them unable to sleep at night and unable to work in the day.
They say the outages last up to 24 hours in some areas. Residents of Lines Area and Abyssinia Lines took to the streets to protest the loadshedding by K-Electric.
The protesters blocked Sharae Quaideen, but reopened one of its tracks after talks with police and Rangers officials. They ended the blockade after K-Electric officials assured them that no power load management would be done at night.
In Korangi, multiple areas were affected and Allahwala Town, KDA Employees Society and Al Wasi Town spent the night without power.
Temperatures are going up to 31 degrees Celsius at night, leaving people hot and uncomfortable.
K-Electric says there is a 600 megawatt shortfall caused by lack of furnace oil. It says it will take them a week to get more oil, after which more power will be generated.
