People on French Island at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula told to leave before conditions become too dangerous
A fire is burning out-of-control on French Island at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and firefighters are backburning around the northern edge of a 90,000ha fire in Victoria’s alpine region after residents were earlier ordered to evacuate to escape spotfires in the hills around Mount Buffalo.
An emergency warning – the highest alert level – has been issued for the French Island blaze at Ridge Track, which is travelling south towards McLeods Road.
